701   ART I    1 CREDIT

No Prerequisites.  Students will be expected to learn the elements and principles of art; develop good craftsmanship with different media; and learn the proper use of materials, tools, and equipment.  Art History will be incorporated, as well as studying individual artist and their techniques.  Students will describe, analyze, interpret, and judge work orally and in written form.                                                

Student Expectations and Experiences:

 

  1.  Learn and use the elements and principles of design in projects and written work

  2.  Learn proper use of materials, tools, and equipment

  3.  Develop good craftsmanship when working with different mediums

  4.  Draw using the proper perspective

  5.  Use different materials and methods

  6.  Become aware of the different styles of art

  7.  Acquire a working knowledge of terms

 

689 ART II   1 CREDIT

Prerequisites:  Must have completed Art 1 and passed with a C or better.

This class develops skills learned in Art 1.  We will create art from around the world and from different periods.  Students will have freedom in choosing subject matter.  Students will paint and draw with various materials; acrylics, tempera, watercolor, graphite, oil pastels, tie dye, Indian Ink, etc.  They will also use media in non-traditional ways.  This class has more projects and less journaling.

 

693    ART III   1 CREDIT

 

Grade:  12th (11th grade with guidance department and art department approval)

 

Prerequisite:   Must have completed Art II and passed with a C or better.

 

This course is developed to serve students who have performed at a high level in the other art courses offered and shown an interest in studying art in some area at the college/university level.   Students will be expected to work in a college style (independent study) class format.  Projects will be developed from selected art processes such as design, drawing, painting, graphics, photography, etc.  Students will be expected to expand on the knowledge acquired in previous courses concerning the elements of art, principles of design, and the various art processes to produce a body of work to be displayed or exhibit, implemented and evaluated.

 

688   ART IV   1 CREDIT

Grade:  12th (11th grade with guidance department and art department approval)

690 FILM APPRECIATION    1 CREDIT

Grade 9 – 12

Students will survey different movie styles with the intent of increasing the enjoyment of different movie styles and/or developing artistic or technical judgement.  Students will develop and understanding of the contemporary film industry, as well as an overview of the history of film making.  Students will be exposed to the process and artistic techniques of film production.
