Students Enjoy Artist/Illustrator's Presentation

On February 4, 2013 Steve Harpster children’s author and illustrator came to Livermore Elementary for a school visit.  All students at Livermore Elementary attended one of his 3 presentations throughout the day.  In his presentations, Mr. Harpster discussed how he came to be an illustrator. He told the students that he began drawing and practicing his art even as a kindergarten student. He emphasized that to become better at anything you must practice, practice, and practice! After sharing about himself, he then began to draw with the students several of his cartoon characters.  While drawing he used art vocabulary such as curved, horizontal, diagonal, and vertical lines.  He discussed how to give your cartoons expression and how adding little details can bring your art to life. The students highly enjoyed his visit and did a great job following along with his step by step instructions.
